Why Dental Implants Are the Gold Standard Treatment

Dr. Tucker of Pflugerville, TX often says that there’s nothing like the teeth that God put in your mouth. However, dental implants are the second-best thing. The technology and materials used have evolved considerably in a short amount of time, making this by far the best missing tooth replacement option.

One Tooth Problem, One Tooth Solution

Historically, bridgework was the go-to solution for a single missing tooth. Dental bridges are good, and we offer them for patients who don’t want implants. However, there are a couple of serious drawbacks to a dental bridge. First, it only replaces the visible part of the tooth, not the root. Second, it requires a couple of crowns to keep it in place. In other words, we are altering two healthy teeth in the process of replacing one missing tooth.

Dental implants are essentially fabricated tooth roots. They go in the jawbone and provide support for a restoration. If you lose one tooth, we can replace it with one implant and a porcelain crown – no other teeth involved.

Dr. Tucker and his team were amazing. I had to have two extractions today to prepare for implants as my insurance expires tomorrow. We expected the whole procedure to take 2 hours - it took 8 because my teeth gave us trouble. He was compassionate, caring, and kind through the whole event and didn’t give up to ensure that I would leave the office safe from the infection we’d found in two failed root canal from another dentist. He and his team talked me through the procedure start to finish and made sure I was cared for. Despite it being a hard procedure, I would absolutely be back! As someone who has pretty significant dental anxiety, that says a lot about how amazing this office is!

Dr. Tucker & his team are awesome caring people. I received two implants & expected pain when I could feel my face again but not so! They even played smooth jazz music to help me relax. Excellent customer service.

I came with a missing front tooth that couldn’t be repaired with placing a new crown. I had a really negative experience with another area dental office and subsequently went without a front tooth for nearly 6 months. Dr Jordan, after listening to my whole sad story, assured me that he could do the extraction of the remaining broken root and do an implant! He felt so bad that I had been without a remedy for so long, he offered to fit me into his schedule and do the procedure immediately! He also modified a retainer I had fashioned with a fake tooth so that it looked more natural and fit better. It looks great while I wait for the bone graft to heal and I will have a new crown placed! The staff is amazing. He has a great team that works together! They made my experience one the best I’ve ever had in a dental office! I highly recommend Dr Tucker and his entire staff from Lisa at the reception desk to Dawn an incredibly kind and highly capable dental assistant!

On a previous appointment I had a small issue and they had me come in for a complementary cleaning to correct it. They went above and beyond what would be required and took care of me. The hygienist was awesome and I look forward to my next visit. Update 11/21/2022 At the suggestion of Dr Tucker I decided to proceed with an implant for a tooth that I had removed 11 months ago. This is my second implant and let me tell you what a great experience for a not so fun procedure. Dr.Tucker made the process extremely easy and painless! Okay the shot of novocaine is a little bit uncomfortable, but that's going to happen anywhere. Also there was virtually no pain after the novocaine wore off. Overall I was very impressed with the first part of the tooth replacement. I'm sure that the crown will be just as great and I'll give an update in a few months.

Dental implants can replace any quantity of damaged, deteriorated, or missing teeth, from a single tooth to a whole mouthful. You could be an excellent candidate for dental implants if you have endured the loss of teeth, require tooth removals, or are having issues with an existing restoration. To be successful, implants call for enough bone tissue, healthy gums, and a stable dental environment, and some individuals might need additional treatments before they qualify as great candidates. Dental implants may not be appropriate when you are pregnant, if you smoke cigarettes, or have certain health concerns. During your consultation, our team will help you find out if implant-based solutions are ideal for you.

Why Choose Dental Implants

Dr. Tucker had the privilege of working under a dental implant specialist for about a year, during which time he received advanced training. He also gained a deep appreciation for the many benefits of dental implants. One of the most significant is the preservation of the jawbone. Tooth roots transfer bite force to the jawbone, which stimulates healthy cell rejuvenation. Just as unused muscles will lose mass, the jawbone begins shrinking (resorbing) when not stimulated by roots. Implants mimic the action of tooth roots, preventing bone resorption. Other benefits include:

  • Unlike natural teeth, dental implants and restorations do not get cavities.
  • Titanium implants topped with porcelain restorations look just like natural teeth.
  • If you maintain good oral hygiene, implant-supported restorations can last a lifetime.
  • Implants function just like teeth, allowing you to eat what you like without worry or discomfort.

About Us
Are dental implants painful?

Rest assured that most patients do not experience any pain during their dental implant procedures. We will administer a local anesthetic before the procedure begins to ensure your highest degree of comfort during the procedure. If you have additional questions regarding pain or anesthetic, do not hesitate to express your concerns during your consultation appointment.

How long will my implants last?

Implants are made to last for decades when treated and maintained properly. The crown is the piece of the implant that may need touch-ups or replacements, but generally only after 15 – 20 years. With routine dental visits and at-home oral hygiene, implants and crowns both can last for even longer.

Are there alternatives to dental implants?

Depending on your oral health and your needs, you may qualify for alternatives to permanent dental implants. Some patients opt for a partial denture when looking for a removable option. Discuss your specific goals with your provider to determine what would be the best option for you.
