Giving Teeth the Royal Treatment with Dental Crowns

You have a cracked tooth, or maybe a very large cavity. It’s too much for a filling, but you don’t want to lose your tooth. Fortunately, there is a dental restoration designed for just such a situation – the dental crown. Dr. Jordan Tucker offers a variety of dental crown options at Elite Smiles of Pflugerville.

What Is A Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are essentially porcelain teeth, which are hollow in the middle. They fit over natural teeth, restoring oral health, functionality, and aesthetics. The root and core tooth structure remains intact, but it is encased in a thick layer of high-strength material, usually porcelain. This type of restoration is sometimes called a tooth cap.

Debbie, mr Jordan, and amber, Danielle are the best group of people. Mr Jordan and amber are a hilarious and made me feel at ease and answered my questions. I really love the atmosphere here and the music is r&b all day long. 10/10 on everything :) too bad mr Jordan’s taken 💙

I started seeing Dr. Tucker back in 2018 in Temple when I started considering improving my smile. I had a lot of fillings as a kid that were now cracked teeth needing addressed first. Dr. Tucker did an amazing job fixing everything, and saved me a ton of money. He started his own office about an hour away from where I lived shortly after completing my work. Once I was ready to start the cosmetic work I went to 3 different dentists in my area who were okay, but I didn't feel great about moving forward with them so i decided to make the drive to see Dr. Tucker and he literally changed my life! I am in love with my my new smile and grateful for Dr. Tucker!

This dental office is amazing. It all starts as soon as you walk through the door with a warm welcome. They treat you like a family member or friend and not just a patient. Amber is so kind. Micha my hygienist explained the entire process of the cleaning to me. Made me feel comfortable and relaxed.

Versatile, Convenient, and Long-Lasting

The idea of crowning teeth is not new. It is a tried-and-true technique, which has been successfully used by generations of dentists. That is not to say advances in modern dentistry have passed by the simple crown. In truth, today’s dental crowns are better than ever, with lifelike appearance and superb longevity. Additionally, modern high-tech instruments facilitate exacting precision for an ideal fit with maximum preservation of tooth structure.

Uses of dental crowns include:

  • Correct a misshapen tooth
  • Repair a broken or cracked tooth
  • Restore a tooth with severe decay
  • Protect a weak or brittle tooth, especially after root canal therapy
  • Support a dental bridge
  • Replace a missing tooth (this is a special type of crown that is supported by a dental implant)

About the Procedure

A standard dental crown usually takes two appointments, a couple of weeks apart.

  • During the first visit, Dr. Tucker will prepare the tooth by removing any damaged or diseased material and shaping the structure for optimal restoration retention. He will take impressions, which are used to create your permanent crown. Last, a temporary restoration is added in order to protect the tooth while the dental laboratory creates your permanent crown.

  • The second appointment is timed after your new crown is ready. Dr. Tucker will remove the temporary and try the new one. If there are any concerns about the fit or appearance, adjustments are made. When you and the dentist agree that the crown is perfect, he will cement it in place.

About Us
What types of problems do dental crowns fix?

A dental crown placed by Dr. Tucker can repair a number of dental issues, including teeth that are cracked, decayed, worn down, chipped, discolored, broken, or misshapen.

Do dental crowns look natural?

Yes, they do. We offer a variety of dental crowns that are made from materials that look identical to natural tooth enamel. That means that when your crown is finished, nobody will know you have a new crown, unless you tell them.

Does getting a dental crown hurt?

No, most patients don't find getting a dental crown painful. With Dr. Tucker's experienced hand and a variety of anesthetic options offered, having a dental crown placed at Elite Smiles of Pflugerville can be done with little to no discomfort.

How long does a dental crown usually last?

How long a dental crown lasts will depend on a number of factors, including which tooth was treated, oral health, and the type of crown used. Most patients can expect a dental crown to last up to 10 years or longer before it may need to be replaced. Regular brushing and flossing, in addition to regular dental checkups at Elite Smiles of Pflugerville can help extend the life of your new dental crown.
